Menagerie

February 3 – March 3, 2017

A group exhibition featuring work by Adam Doyle, Katherine Gallagher, Amy Guidry, Laurie Hogin, Gabriel Lovejoy, Chris Musina, and Kevin Taylor. A menagerie was a collection of exotic animals from around the world that were kept for display and entertainment, and were especially popular in European courts of seventeenth and eighteenth century. In art, animals have long been used as a vehicle to explore our relationship to each other, our environment, and ourselves. The artists in the exhibit fully embrace this tradition and use animal imagery to address a wide range of topics from environmental concerns, to societal constructs, to self-examination, to pure celebration of nature. Just like the menageries of the past this exhibit brings together a collection of fantastic beasts, however this time they are more than just mere curiosities. The specimens here ask us to think, they ask us to feel, they ask us to take action.
