Explore the world through language! Continuing Education provides language classes designed to improve your communication in the workplace, community, and abroad.


American Sign Language

In this class, you will learn the basics of American Sign Language and explore deaf culture. There will be lessons on fingerspelling, numbers, high-frequency words, and much more. You will gain knowledge of basic vocabulary with an understanding of deaf culture through a balance of lessons, practice, and review.

Beginning English Language Skills:   Level 1

Beginning English as a Second Language Level 1 is designed for students with little to no prior knowledge of the English language. This course focuses on foundational skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students will learn basic vocabulary, simple sentence structures, and essential grammar. Through interactive activities, students will practice everyday communication skills necessary for personal and professional settings. Textbook included.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and use basic English vocabulary for everyday situations.
  • Construct simple sentences using correct grammar.
  • Understand and respond to common greetings and questions.
  • Read and comprehend short, simple texts.
  • Write simple sentences and fill out basic forms.
  • Develop confidence in basic speaking and listening skills.

Beginning English Language Skills:  Level 2

Beginning English as a Second Language Level 2 builds upon the skills learned in Level 1, providing students with further development in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The course introduces more complex vocabulary and grammar structures. Students will engage in dialogues, role-plays, and other interactive activities to enhance their conversational abilities and comprehension skills in more varied contexts. Textbook included.

Learning Objectives:

  • Expand vocabulary to include a wider range of everyday topics.
  • Formulate more complex sentences and questions.
  • Participate in simple conversations about daily activities.
  • Read and understand short paragraphs and simple stories.
  • Write short paragraphs and simple letters.
  • Improve listening comprehension of short, clear, and slow speech.

Intermediate English Language Skills:  Level 1

This class is designed for adults who have a foundational understanding of English and want to improve their language skills to the next level. In ESL Level 3, students will expand their vocabulary, improve pronunciation, and strengthen their understanding of grammar and sentence structure.

Through engaging activities such as conversations, reading comprehension exercises, writing tasks, and listening practice, participants will gain more confidence in everyday communication, both in personal and professional settings. The course will also focus on practical language use for real-life situations such as workplace communication, social interactions, and problem-solving. This class is ideal for those who want to refine their intermediate English skills and take a step closer to becoming proficient.

  • Express ideas more fluently and accurately
  • Understand and participate in more complex conversations
  • Write paragraphs and short essays with improved structure and grammar
  • Interpret main ideas and details from written texts and spoken dialogue

Conversational Spanish 3

This course is designed for students who wish to further develop their knowledge of the language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. It includes further development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Spanish, with an emphasis on the language's grammatical components.
